James Wilson –Fine Art Photography
James Wilson has been an artist working in the medium of photography for more than 30 years. James works from his heritage home and natural light studio in the beautiful Kennebecasis River Valley near Hampton New Brunswick, Canada. He uses large format cameras mostly, making images of the land or to document people in great detail. James's new work involves digital photography, merging image layers and textures to create new images that challenge your emotions.
In 2008 James Wilson was short listed for the prestigious Strathbutler Art Award. He has recently completed Portraits: New Brunswick Painters , which has been both a book and an exhibition. This project was co-curated by Peter Larocque and Peter Buckland. The New Brunswick Museum published the book. His latest project, dance FIGURA is a provocative and exciting examination of the human form in motion. This exhibition was launched at the Peter Buckland Gallery in October of 2009. Also in 2009 James Wilson was the first photography-based artist to be chosen to make a formal portrait of the out-going President of the University of New Brunswick. Historically this commission has always gone to painters.
