Profile

David McKay was born in 1945 in Fredericton. He attended local schools, graduating from the Fredericton High School in 1964, and the Saint John Institute of Technology in 1967, (diploma in Structural Technology). He is self-taught as an artist.

                     Two paintings purchased for the permanent collection of The Owens Art Gallery, Mount Allison                                University, Sackville, N.B.

 

1984-1986    Work selected for the N.B. Juried Exhibition organized by the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.

 

                      Conducted a series of workshops on the technique of egg tempera painting for various art groups and art                        educators in New Brunswick. . Exhibited in "Four New Brunswick Painters", Ring Gallery, Saint John, N.B.

 

                      Painting selected by the Province of New Brunswicks and presented to Prince Andrew during his 1985 royal                       visit.

                     Major commissioned work for Irving Oil Company.

1982-1983   Commissioned to paint the MacDonald Farm Historic Park for N.B. Tel. The resulting four paintings are in                          NB  Tel's permanent collection. Three of them were reproduced on their annual directory cover.

1976            Began showing work at The Shayne Gallery, Montreal , Quebec and at The Aggregation Gallery, Toronto                     Ont. Exhibited with the Province of N.B. at the Montreal Olympics. . Selected to exhibit in Atlantic Coast ,

                    an internationally touring exhibit organized by the National Gallery and Mount Saint Vincent University.

1972            Began painting on a full time professional basis, exhibiting locally in New Brunswick galleries.

 

During his thirty-one year career, David McKay has been interviewed numerous times on local and national radio and television. Articles of his work have appeared in Art Magazine, #22 and #25; The Atlantic Advocate, June 1977; Atlantic Insight, May 1979 and January 1983, Halifax, September 1980; Arts Atlantic, no's 11, 14, 18, 19,24,25,36,38,43,47,49 and 55.
