Paul Mathieson

Paul Mathieson was born in England. He studied in England, receiving both his BFA and his MFA in Art Education. Paul and his wife, Vicki, moved to Canada in 1975. He has maintained dual careers as a fine artist and as an art teacher since 1975. Paul retired from teaching in 2006 and devotes himself full time to his painting.

Artist’s Statement

I paint pictures that reflect something of the human condition. This concept has always been of interest to me and is central to my body of work. My work has continued to evolve through each successive series. It has been a journey, unplanned though not uninformed, as I have attempted, at each stage, to build on what has gone before. I believe that as my work has evolved my technique has grown in sophistication, reflecting the increasing complexity of ideas.
